Newmarket

Newmarket has been recognised as the Headquarters of Racing for over 300 years.

Some 3000 horses are in training in the immediate vicinity of this unique racing town, set in the heart of East Anglia, yet only sixty minutes from London by road or rail. In addition to the two historic racecourses, The NatWest Rowley Mile and The July Course, it is the home of the National Stud and the National Horse Racing Museum.

The NatWest Rowley Mile is named after King Charles II "Old Rowley" who founded the Newmarket meetings following his restoration to the throne in 1660. The NatWest Rowley Mile Course has been home to the first two of the five great "classic" Races, the One Thousand Guineas and the Two Thousand Guineas, since 1814 and 1809 respectively, and also stages many other world famous races including The Champion Stakes on "Champions" Day. The Cesarewitch and The Cambridgeshire

The profile of the live audience on the major race days is of particularly high calibre, including British and overseas royalty and politicians, global captains of industry, city analysts and international inventors, and celebrities from sport and show business. In short a collection of "the good and the great."
